In August 2006, the MMS, the federal agency in charge of leasing offshore oil and gas development rights, released its 5-Year Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Proposed Leasing Program and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

MMS has proposed two lease sales in Bristol Bay, 2010 and in 2012.
