Oil and Gas Exploration in the Bristol Bay Area
Oil and gas exploration is no new thing in Bristol Bay.
In fact, the federal government began investigating the oil and gas potential of the Bay in 1869. The first claims were issued in the early 1890s and by 1904 the first wells were drilled.
Right now the US Minerals Management Service has two proposed lease sales in Bristol Bay, slated for 2010 and 2012.
